Canada and the USA
Mordecai Richler said “Canada is malevolently well aware of the United States and the United States is benevolently unaware of Canada.” Both Canada and the United States are liberal democratic nations yet their political systems and societal norms are very different. What would seem mainstream in the United States is viewed as “fringe” in Canada and what is viewed as mainstream in Canada can be reviled in the United States as socialist and “un-American.” This course will look at the political systems of Canada and the United States, their constitutions and various social movements.
NB – History 4100 is a seminar course. Enrollment will be limited to 15.
